by countless trips to art galleries, watching people move
in front of a painting, look at it for a few moments, lean
forward and stare at some particular part of the painting
as though seeing all of life's mysteries answered in the
paint, then standing back and saying to their viewing partner,
'marvellous use of green.' |
because everyone's
been in an art gallery and heard someone say something like
this, haven't they?
Art gallery quotes
are great, often better than the art in the gallery. My favourite
was in the Royal Academy - two old ladies were looking at a
Chris Ofili painting. 'This one I do like,' one of them said.
'Are you sure?' asked the other old lady, 'Look closely.' Her
friend looked more closely and almost fainted, 'Oh my, no!'
she stuttered on seeing the bottoms cut out of porn mags stuck
to the canvas. I'd like to add she was carried out on a stretcher,
but adhering to the truth forbids me. Oh well.
